THE FELDENKRAIS METHOD®

Background:

Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais who was born in 6 May 1904 and died in July 1 1984 he developed a method called The Feldenkrais Method. His methods of human movement and practice are derived form his original teachings which he developed last century. His method like "The Alexander Technique." is widely practiced by many practitioners today and come from his original teaching concepts.

The Method:

The Feldenkrais Method what is it? The Feldenkrais method is a method of learning adaptations and changes to the human body, in particular the nervous systems and according to Feldenkrais "redefines functionality." There are two areas that his method are concerned with one is "Awareness though Movement" and the other is "Functional Integration" both are the principle focuses of his method. So what is "Awareness through Movement" is social cognition and awareness of the humans body and its nervous systems. Each part of the body has target areas that are conditioned through spatial awareness and each part of the bodies functional zones via neural and physical cognition. So what is "Functional Integration" is human interaction, social discourse, interventions via physical movements and body manipulations.

Functional Integration focuses is one-on-one intervention as Awareness through Movement is more class orientated.

Feldenkrais Method has two focuses on movement and that movement should be gentle and that human action in Feldenkrais Method should be fluid and graceful. It is through understanding of basic and advanced movement that we become aware of our basic posture and alignment.

Functional usage of the Feldenkrais Method:

Back pain and back injuries
Neural conditions.
MS

It Benefits:

Athletes - Dancers - Performers and aids in the recuperation of injuries in the lower back.

There are two class types:

Awareness through Movement & Functional Integration!

We need more Feldenkrais in our daily lives!

Above is a link to learn more about this method and its benifits.

THE BRIDGE - WHEEL POSE

Found this excellent resource on one of my favorite poses. The Bridge Pose along with Gate / Firefly and The Bird are in my favorite top to asnas ever.

The Bridge Pose is one pose that challenges me all the time. How to learn it and what I get out of it. It is a Chakra Asana pose and most people find it difficult to do or are afraid to do it.

There is a scale of difficulty for all Yoga Based Asanas.

The scale goes from 1 - 8 (1 being the easiest to do (Mountain Pose.) as opposed to Bird Pose which has a difficulty level of 7 on the scale of difficulty. The Wheel Pose sits on 8 on the scale and is considered one of the harder asanas to do. In saying this the lower option (Bridge Pose.) has a difficulty level of 3 and would be the easiest asana option for this pose.

http://www.yoginirmalendu.com/asanas/wheelpose.htm

Many people often think that they can do a level 8 pose up front. Well that may be true for some people who are trained in gymnastics, but for the average street goer who comes to class 3 times a week it takes time to master the Level 8 variation of the pose.

Understanding how to get to a level 8 pose takes some time and alot of study and not ebing afraid to do the impossible at some time. It took me 2 years to be able to master The Bridge Pose and to get confident in my exploration of the pose. I was challenged recently in Bodybalance to find the courage to do the pose and explore the level 8 commitment in myself to do this pose.

Healing Benifits:

The Bridge Pose cleanses the kidneys, clams the nervous system, strengthens the lower back and provides core alignment.

Alternate Pose:

Camel Pose can be used as a sbstitute pose (if pregnant.) observe Trimester 1 - 3 precautions (consult your Dr before doing Asnas.) Talk to your Bodybalance Instructor and get some general advice on the pregnancy options available in Bodybalance.

Precautions:

If you have heart problems - eye issues - high blood preasure consult your Dr prior to doing this asana.

For educational usage only Please consult a Dr Prior to do any Yoga Based Exercise Program..

BRINGING MORE INTO MY MOUNTAIN POSE

Lately I have been spending tons of time locating my inner mountain, locating the stillness of the pose, and locating the inner serenity of the pose. I found those different times of day and different moods bring the mountain pose to different levels of understanding.

I found that to find my centre I needed to locate the inner spaces of the pose and discover the white spaces of the pose. Locate the inner energy of the pose and find where I am and how I can locate different spaces in the pose.

I have been experimenting with breath cycles and locating new ways of enhancing the pose.

Give this a go:

1. Stand in mountain pose. Experiment with breath cycles each time I used 3 breath cycles and 5 breath cycles each breath cycle seems different in the end of the pose adding more space to the pose.

2. Reach for highest mountain as you reach clasp the hands in prayer and breath 5 breath cycles. Or three-breath cycle looking up as you breathe.

3. Then come back to mountain with palms facing forward.

4. Do this 5 times, as you do each cycle become more aware of breath.

5. Then return to mountain pose.

6. Center yourself after each breath and High Mountain sequence and finding new areas open spaces in each sequence.

Namaste!
