MY FUNNY VALENTINE: STING AT THE MOVIES

When I was growing up Elvis - Steve McQueen etc.... were ultra cool. We also wanted to be like Steve McQueen.

We went to the pictures every Saturday and watched the shorts and then the main movie. I have great memories of seeing some great cinema back then including Rocky - Saturday Night Fever - Grease etc... when they were just around. We wanted to be like "John Travolta" and dance like him in Saturday Night Fever and Staying Alive - "Far from Over - Frank Stalone" Bodycombat 3 1999.

Where was I oh yeah Sting.....

© 2005 A&M Records

Sting was last seen in Bodybalance/Flow/Healing in release 29 with Stolen Car and in the up and coming release 32 with "Taking the Inside Rail" from "Racing Stripes Soundtrack".

Sting earlier this year completed a CD of great show tunes from some of the best movies of the later part of the 20th century. Man do I feel old writting that!

I just love the music from great movies "Kramer vrs Kramer - Ordinary People - On Golden Pond - The French Lieutenants Woman - Mame - Sweet Charity - Someone to Watch Over Me - Vertico " are just wonderful movies they don't make movies like them anymore. Sting March this year released a massive project featurning some of the best tunes from classic movies by the greatest composers ever "George and Ira Gershwin" for example.

Cinema was outstanding back them and Broadway was even more so....

Tracklist:

1. My Funny Valentine - Ashura (Japanese), 2005

2. Englishman In New York - Stars and Bars, 1988
3. Shape Of My Heart - The Professional (aka. Leon), 1994
4. Angel Eyes - Leaving Las Vegas, 1995
5. Until - Kate and Leopold, 2002
6. It's Probably Me - Lethal Weapon 3, 1992
7. Windmills Of Your Mind - The Thomas Crown Affair, 1999
8. The Secret Marriage - Four Weddings And A Funeral, 1994
9. Fragile - The Living Sea (Imax), 1995
10. The Mighty - Bring On The Night, 1986
11. Valpraiso - White Squall, 1995
12. Someone To Watch Over Me - Someone To Watch Over Me, 1987
13. Moonlight - Sarbrina, 1995
14. My One And Only Love - Leaving Las Vegas, 1995

HURRICANE RELIEF: COME TOGETHER NOW

Live Aid in the 1980's was a massive relief project to relieve world hunger in Africa. I was a teenager back then and watched the whole thing from start to finish, and Live8 was on last year. This year another tragerdy came our way Hurricane Katrina and the Tsumani of Boxing Day 2005 and the Earthquakes in Pakistan and surrounding regions.

Several performers gathered to raise money called "Come Together Now" for the families of Hurricane Katrina.

SIZZLER BODYBALANCE 32

Holding some poses for a longer time gives this new class a really different feel. It also has a special focus on hip openers and hamstrings.

As instructors we can take time to teach to a higher level of technique, enabling our class members to get a deeper experience of the workout. Also, by teaching a calm steady eye gaze and focusing on their breathing, class members will be able to hold the poses more comfortably and thus gain benefit to their strength and flexibility.

The result is a very rewarding experience and an intense feeling of serenity.

Our t'ai chi warm-up provides one of the real highlights, with two new t'ai chi moves that flow beautifully to the sound of Sting, Taking the Inside Rail.

Standing strength is another standout track where we hold and extend the poses. Sink deeply into the challenge and find some motivation from Seal's take on the great classic, Walk On By!

I would also nominate the new track nine for special mention. We bring back the t'ai chi from the warm-up which promotes a meditative quality alongside long held poses and an amazing remake of Center of the Sun, from Conjure One.

I just love this class.

Jackie

Tracklist so far. I have Walk on Bye by Seal it is a remake of the classic Dionne Warwick hit from the 1970's. If you have a copy of that one then Seals version remains true to the original version in Bodybalance 32.

Walk on Bye was written by Burt Bacharach and Hall David. I wrote a review of music by Burt before this information was released about release 32.

How strange is that?

Sting returns for the 3rd time with a number 0ne. Initially A Thousand Years from 13 and Stolen Car from 29.

YOGA FOR INLINE SKATERS!

Found the article on Yoga for In Line Skaters.

Many athletes today use Yoga as apart of their exercise program, and some use Bodybalance/Flow/Healing as a form of training aid for their particular sporting event they might want to do.

http://www.getrolling.com/orbit/yoga4skaters.html

Is a interesting article and poses for In - Line - Skaters a really nice layed out resource and the poses are woderfully illustrated and explained :)

Hope people find the interesting :)

PIGEON POSE - SWAN POSE!

So what do you say Pigeon Pose or Swan Pose?

I say Swan Pose sometimes and when I read yoga books some authors say Pigeon Pose. Molly Fox sometimes used to say Pigeon Pose. Jackie uses Swan Pose.

THE PLANK - VASISTHASANA!

Can't remember the last time we had a track with so much plank work in it. Gangsters Paradise in release 8 was a good plank track and loved them in that release. The current one has them which I do like :)

Side Planks are a good workout for the external obliges and transverse abdominal (tva), if you are prost pregnancy it is excellent to get the abs back into shape after the birth of a child. In a typical gym program one would recommed 10 each side. That would be too much for a Bodybalance class :)

On the level of difficulty it is a Level 4 pose in yoga terms.

The plank should be done with spread fingers always. The breath cycle should be 5 breaths for each side and a further five for the full plank position.

There are 4 options to the pose:

On forearms.
On right or left palm spread fingers - foot down and leg down as a easier option.
On right or left palm spread fingers - stacked feet
On right or left palm spread fingers - extend the leg that is on top up and out like a pair of sissors.

Explore the many options in planks play around with each option when you come to class. I do that often it adds variation to the pose and increases and decreases the level of difficulty for planks in any Bodybalance class.

YOGA MATS IN BODYBALANCE/FLOW/HEALING!

Most people come to class with a Yoga Mat and do the class using them. Well I tried this and it got in my way. I was forever worrying about the position of the mat, standing on it, moving it, and generally trying to avoid it in certain tracks.

On the current release we have actual mat placement guidelines now.

How cool is that :) for those who use the mat :) I rather stick to the polished floor boards and grab a towel for core abs and back and track 8 and 9. The rest well no mat for me :) :P

It must be a male thing!

Hmmmmm.

1965 was an awesome year :)

Would it be cool to get that one to present in a Masterclass :) which leads to the above post on Michael Buble!

POLL RESULTS SO FAR!

ARTISTS AND CD'S ADDED RELEASE 31 BACK TO RELEASE 7

Well it is almost complete I have updated the tracklists with CD Information.

I am all the way back to No 7 and will be back to No 1 by the end of the year.

Please check them out :)

http://bodybalanceflow.blogspot.com/2005/01/bodybalance-track-lists.html

TAI CHI RETURNS TO TRACK 9

In the current release we have Push - Sarah McLachlan track 9. We now have a tai chi focus back in track 9 I love that :) In release 18 "09. I am not worried at All – Moby" we had the same thing. Presented by Emma Barry so wonderfully in that release. Just love release 18 so much.

A big thumbs up to this concept. I love the 100 % yoga hamstrings/ff concept 9 BB 14 Breathe Faith Hill - Breathe was wonderful and 9 BB 19 17 Again Eurythmics are outstanding.

What ever one Jackie uses I love them either way. This time longer poses which is awesome. I love longer poses.

More hamstring activation and stretching is always good.

We don't stretch them enough in our everyday lives :)

ROBBIE WILLIAMS "ADVERTISING SPACE"

Reviewed Robbie Williams Gear here.

http://bodybalanceflow.blogspot.com/2005/09/robbie-williams-is-back.html

Advertising Space is so Bodybalance it would be a awesome track in Bodybalance :)

TRACK 4 "BODYBALANCE 31" LOVE SHOULD

Sometimes Jackie incorporates some dance into track 4 it is often a Yoga/Dance Based section of the class. This time the class in track 4 is more dance pose focused. I like those. 4 BB 04 Habanera Theresa Berganza is pure Opera and 100 percent dance focused. Like 4 BB 05 Rent Liza Millenii is more of a Dance Based Track. IMO. Then you have 4 BB 06 I'm your angel Celine Dion & R. Kelly which is combination of Yoga and Dance which is also awesome.

Wow what a track :) I feel like a dancer when doing that track and the set of poses Jackie has choreographed for that part of the class.

There are some tracks that have a real Ballet feel to them. This track does have a certain dance base to the track.

The track is not complicated and the set of poses work well with what Jackie has choreographed.

Well I feel like a Ballet Dancer while doing track 4 of Bodyblance 31. Track 4 just washes over me a awesome choreographed set of poses with some enjoyable lengthening stretches in this track.

The track leads into "Take my Breath Away" which is another story ...........

WE HAVE A NEW POSE IN RELEASE 31

Garry Hart asked if anyone can come up with a name for a set of poses we do in Bodybalance well if you are a Les Mills Instructor and went to the 1/4 then you will know what I am on about.

Here is my suggestion.

Gather the Earth and Shade the Sun/Moon Pose.

The name so suits the pose and when I do it I say Gather the Earth and then shade the sun one side then on the other side I say Gather the Earth and Shade the Moon the other side :)

That sounds so claming :)

I may e-mail Garry that :) and wonders if I will win the prize he was offering to us at the 1/4. :)

ANI BRUNET BODYBALANCE RELEASE 31

It was nice to see her once again on a release. The last time was on release 23 in 2003. I like the way she teaches Bodybalance she makes it accessable. This time she presented tracks 8 - 11 on the DVD.

I like the way she cues tracks much the same way as Charlene does here in Australia. Her meditation and relaxation section of the release was awesome. She makes the whole thing calming and her scripting for that part of the class was outstanding.

I hope one day to make it to New Zealand and do one of her classes.

Outstanding :)

BODYBALANCE 31 DVD TRACK 2 RELEASE!

Release - Sinead O'Connor & Afro Celt Sound System is the second track on the current release of Bodyblance 31. Well if you watch the DVD you know about the transition. I liked having only two people on stage present the Sun Salutations.

On the current DVD Jackie and Dave are only on stage doing this part of the track. Watching Dave and Jackie explore the options was well recieved by myself. You can interchange between Jackie and Dave and watch them as a Part A and then Part B getting more information on the poses and technical execution of the poses in track 2. The last time I saw a transition on stage was in release 28. This release also has the same thing going on several during the class.

I love the whoe DVD it was awesome to watch and look at.

GODS TOP 10 INXS "SWITCH"

If anyone gets around to it please listen to track 11 on the CD it would make an awesome Bodybalance Track :)

TABLE TOP POSE AND OTHER POSES IN BODYBALANCE!

Have to say one thing that the Table Top Pose is one of my favorites in Bodybalance. I loved it in Bodybalance 18 "Moby" and also in Bodybalance 13 "Leann Rimes" track. In release 31 we have it back. I miss the full option of the pose and taking it up to Level 1 of the pose.

I spoke about the pose to a friend of mine who is a PT and also the guy that trained me years ago as Gym Instructor and he said that it is a powerful pose That requires a certain amount of Upper Body strength conditioning. It is like doing a Reverse Plank, to some the pose is hard to get into and others it is easy. Much like the Wheel Pose it takes a lot of time to learn the pose and be able to perform the pose.

The pose has lots of health benefits, it cleanses the kidneys and helps with sinus conditions and headaches.

With every pose in Balance there is some medical benefit from the poses. Its like when you walk into a class you get a "Holistic" approach to the class with a total mind and body connection. I think that's what is a great thing about Bodybalance it does that.

I had a tremendous upper back spasm that would not go away on Friday. Bodybalance 31 fixed up the problem.

I am not saying that Bodybalance should be done instead of consulting a doctor. I would say that release 31 from my personal viewpoint has helped my upper back spasm which is truly a good thing :)

IAN RITCHIE "THE LONELY PLANET" A DECADE LATTER!

I love the work of Ian Ritchie since I heard his music on "The Lonely Planet" double cassette in 1995. That was over 10 years ago. I cannot believe where time has gone. I used to put on the walkman and every chance I get listen to the cassette over and over again.

He wrote the theme for "The Lonely Planet" series including the title of the show and also several pieces of music for "The globetrotter" series.

The Theme for The Lonley Planet is still to this day one of my favorite pieces of music and I still play it to this day. Lace Maker from the CD is a beautiful piece of music. I adore that small piece of music. Songbird, Red Rocks, Equador, Indonesia are wonderful pieces of music.

Mountain Girl from the sountrack of the show what more can you say an awesome piece of music.

I loved watching Ian, Andrew, Justine globe trott around the world and open up to me a world of culture and music I would have never known existed. The music to the show was so in tune with the material presented.

His music was my introduction to Ambient and World Music, before the Lonely Planet Series my musical tastes were defined differently, since then and the music of Ian I now have an appreciation of Ambient and World music.

I adore the music of Ian Ritchie, if you get the opportunity locate a copy of "The Lonely Planet" music from the series.

Ian has a new project going please visit his site at:

http://ian-ritchie.com/soho/index.htm

for more information :) The project materials will be released January 2006 :)

Thank Ian Ritchie because if it was not for Ian then we would not have the music we have in Bodybalance today. :)

Outstanding and superb.
